Cold Weather Payment
If you are already claiming Pension Credit then a small payment will be made automatically for each period of cold weather. This is defined as a period of 7 consecutive days with an average temperature of 0 degrees Celsius or below. If you think you should receive this payment but have not done so, contact your local office of the Department of Work and Pensions on 0800 1412591.
Winter Fuel Payment
Available to most people aged 60 and over. An increased payment is made once you reach 80. Most people receive this benefit automatically. If you are a man aged between 60 and 65 you may need to make a claim for this benefit. Call 08459 151515 to make a claim.
In addition, if the weather is exceptionally cold, additional payments are made on a weekly basis if you are receiving Pension Credit. There are also grants available to help you reduce the level of your bills.
